key elements related to the problem.

The 4W’s problem canvas includes the following four blocks:
u Who: The prime aim of this block is to identify all the stakeholders involved in the problem. This block is
made up of various questions such as:
Who are the possible stakeholders?
How does this problem affect them?
Why do they want to find a solution for the problem?
What is their role in the problem and its subsequent solution?
u What: This block identifies the nature of the stated problem. At this stage, evidence should be gathered
through various channels, such as newspaper articles, media announcements, magazines, Internet, etc. to
verify if the problem actually exists. The various questions under this block are as follows:
What is the problem?
What is the evidence to support the existence of the problem?
u Where: This block focuses on the context in which the problem arises. The context may include the location,
timings, or circumstances under which the problem occurs. This block contains questions such as:
What is/are the place(s) where problem exists?
What are the situations under which the stakeholders experience the problem?
Are there any specific conditions under which the problem occurs?
u Why: This block aims to specify the benefits of the project for the stakeholders as well as the society. The
questions under this block may be as follows:
How would the stakeholders benefit from the solution?
Why will the stakeholders prefer this solution over any other?
How does this solution prove better than any other solution?
